“People just don’t come back from the dead”. This is the view of the cynic or the scoffer regarding the resurrection of Jesus. Of course, in normal life we do not experience such phenomena so, given the constraints of the material world, perhaps it is not unreasonable for someone who has no belief in God to hold that view. If this material world is all that
exists then miracles, resurrections, life after death are merely fictions. But we believe and affirm that God is real, that miracles do happen, and that we can look forward to eternal life.
Our faith is based entirely on two miraculous events: the incarnation and the resurrection. As Paul says, in Corinthians 15:14 ‘If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith’, and then in v.17, ‘If Christ has not been raised your faith is futile; you are still in your sins’. The resurrection is the most contested and the most important pillar
of our faith. In it is all our hope.
This Easter, let us affirm our faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ in our celebrations, in our gatherings, in our thoughts and in our hearts, with gratitude and thanksgiving to God.
God Bless, Richard
